film language- editing
Last week in media we looked at why editing is important, what types of editing are used and then looked more in depth into cutting in a film and why they do this and what types of cuts are used. why is editing important? editing is a crucial part a film the reasons for this are that it gives structure to the film. its extremely important when liking different scenes of a film. you need editing to make sure the films flows and follows in a logical way. the video in the link bellow will show you that editing is a key part of film making from this scene from the film The Bourne Supremacy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzfSLgWkTlY
what types of editing are there in film? there are many different types of editing in film and TV. these include; the cut, changing the scene, compressing off time, varying the point of view and a montage or build up to an important scene. A good example of this would be in Inglorious Basterds as they use all types of editing to make it a successful scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn35dWgffTk
We also looked more in depth into the different types of cuts or transitions that are used in film and TV now. these include; cutting on a piece of action to build, cutting away from the scene, cross cutting for example when people are having a conversation on the phone and they switch locations. the jump cut which is what they use to pass time and the last type is the match cut. the video link bellow is to a short clip which tells you even more about the different types of cuts and transitions used. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAH0MoAv2CI

First week in AS media
I have completed my first week of work for AS media and in this blog I will give you quick update on what I have learnt so far.
So then let's talk about the theory side of stuff first. in the first few lessons we learned and discussed semiotics. semiotics is the study of signs and what they mean and what people actually think about when they see them. For example if you see a picture of a heart you will think of love and happiness when in reality it's just a heart. The second thing we have learnt this week in the theory lessons was mise-en-scene. This is all about things that you can see in a scene and why they they are there. We also learnt about clamps, meaning costumes, lighting, actors, movement, props and setting. Se used this and how genders are portrayed while analysing a scene from the TV show primeval i will leave a link to the scene.
